The Seoul Auction Gangnam Center will be hosting Choi Wool Ga’s solo exhibition “WHITE BLACK RED”.
A steady series of overseas exhibitions featuring the works of Korean artists has raised the status of Korean contemporary art in the international art market to an unprecedented level, and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years. SA+ will continue serving as a hub that connects Western and Eastern art and communicates with viewers by hosting diverse exhibitions of prominent Korean artists. WHITE BLACK RED, a solo exhibition of Choi WoolGa is significant in that it introduces the newest creations of a Korean artist who is based in Paris and New York.
Choi continues to build an artistic world that is based on a highly unique method of depiction that involves vivid colors and freedom of expression. After majoring in painting at École Boulle, National School of Decorative Arts and Ecole des Beaux Arts de Versailles, Choi began his career as a painter in Paris. After moving to New York in 2000 to find new inspiration and diversify his work, Choi started gaining popular attention for his trademark White & Black series.
Choi once said that the act of painting is the process of finding joy buried deep inside the unconscious. Choi’s paintings, which look similar to the scribbles of a child, are full of colors, lines, animals, and a character that represents himself. This exhibition is comprised of paintings from the artist’s White & Black series as well as his most recent Red series and will serve as a meaningful introduction to the artistic world of Choi WoolGa, which appears to be completely free-wheeling in format but is actually defined by an exquisite coexistence of harmony and a steady, uniform rhythm.
